LED
vs CFL
LED:
The past 25 years have shown vast improvements in LED technology.
It seems just about everything is heading that direction with
light in mind. Many are led to belive LED's consume virtually
no power. This is true for LED's on key chain, but when you
talk high power LED's, consumption and heat are issues to overcome.
Beam angle is also another factor to address when designing
a lamp to fill an area with light. LED beam angle can vary greatly
from 20 deg. (narrow light pattern-long distance) to a 170 deg.
LED
(wide light pattern-shorter
distance). The LED with a 20 deg. beam angle will register a
higher lumen output (using same power LED) than the 170 deg.
LED. The 170 deg. LED will fill a wider area. You would need
several 20 deg. LED's to fill the same area with light used
by the 170 deg. LED. High cost and non repairable lights are
also problematic.
CFL: CFL
is taking the place of the incandecent bulb. Why? From a lighting
point of view, the incan bulb has been around since 1800. Both
produce a full field of light (360x360 deg.), CFL consuming
less power. CFL are high output, easily obtainable, inexspensive
and servicable. Simple.
Conclusion: LED will consume
approximately 2 times the power to achieve the same area (360x360
deg.) of light that is produced by a CFL. 1900 lumen CFL approx.
1 amp = LED 2000 lumen 3.5 amp of directional light. For our
power conscious boaters, we will stay with CFL for now.
Our quick change colors are also a benefit.
Why
wouldn't you use the most versatile fully submersible fishing
lights on the market to increase your odds! All are equipped
with user replaceable bulbs! No cool down period needed for
use above or below waterline transitions and no need for additional
weight to submerge the unit (internally weighted). This angler
series features the same 360x270 degree output of light as our
most powerful Sword Magnet. A must have for any boater, angler
or diver!
With a 1 amp draw, our most efficient DC100 allows for many
hours of use without the fear of battery drain. Beyond the use
from a boat, many customers use this light for "remote
fishing". Their using a battery jumper pack (used to jump
start a boat or car) to power the unit and use it on bridges,
in canoes and perhaps the best yet, sand bars. They place the
battery pack on a sand bar and submerge the light within a mangrove
and wait for the fish to come. This arrangement will allow for
more the 20 hours of light. Cord length: Standard 25'. Colors:
daylight, green and blue. Length: 12". Output: 1900 lumen.
Check out or latest accessory for the DC100, The Remora Kayak
Fishing Light Mount. Read below.
The
BL100 is our next in efficiency and operates on 120 volts AC
and with the optional 100 watt power inverter draws 1.8 amps
on 12 volt DC. Our best selling system is used for game fish,
shrimping, bully netting, flounder gigging and bait collecting.
Standard cord length is 25'. Bulb colors: daylight, green and
blue. Length: 12". Output: 1900lumen.
The
BL200, most powerful in class, operates on 120 volts AC and
with the optional 100 watt power inverter draws 2.8 amps on
12 volt DC. Our latest system is used for game fish, shrimping,
bully netting, flounder gigging and bait collecting. Standard
cord length is 25'. Bulb colors: white, green and blue. Length:
14". Output: 2800 lumen.
Note:
BL100 owners. Your light will except the new BL200 bulb
and cover converting your BL100 to a BL200 model.
